About Florodora

Florodora’s story begins in 2007. Well, really it begins in 1917, when owner Michael Blossom’s grandmother began working in the Monadnock Building. Her name was Florence, and she was very proud to have worked in such a beautiful, important building, so the Monadnock’s name was in Michael’s consciousness from an early age.

Fast forward to 2007, and after a career in fashion, and a second in IT, Florence’s grandson decided to return to his fashion roots and open a boutique. And what better place than in gram’s beloved Monadnock Building.

Florodora offers an alternative shopping experience to shoppers, office workers and residents of downtown Chicago. Featuring women’s contemporary fashion, the focus is on smaller, independent makers. This includes local designers, many independent American designers, and several European and other brands that are simply hard to find in Chicago (and some hard to find, period).

Florodora added shoes to its mix in 2010 in a separate space. In 2020, the two shops were combined into one remodeled space, and Florodora launched its online store.

Inspiration for our selection comes from many places, including the creative energy of our designers, the elegance of old department stores, the excitement of finding something new, the love you can feel for that favorite item in your closet, the beauty of unusual colors, and the tactile pleasure of beautiful fabrics. And most of all from you, our customers, and those moments when we are able to help you look and feel great.
